Star Wars: Rebels

“From a Star Wars fan who hasn’t really honestly loved much new Star Wars since 1983, I had low expectations for this series, but as it turns out, it feels to me the most like classic original trilogy Star Wars than anything else after ROTJ. I think the series is a testament to how the original trilogy music specifically is a defining aspect of what makes quintessential Star Wars what it is, and also how the classic original trilogy ships etc. are just as much characters that define quintessential Star Wars as the original trilogy characters themselves. Rebels is, to me, the perfect balance between a huge helping of original trilogy to keep it quintessential, and just enough new to keep it fresh. As an added treat, while there’s so much of the original trilogy music throughout the series, there are also musical moments clearly inspired by other John Williams pieces, primarily from the Indiana Jones movies — for instance, at one point you’ll hear a riff on the Raiders chase scene with the baskets in the Egyptian marketplace, and at another, you’ll hear a riff on the Raiders truck scene. It’s also worth mentioning that every single frame of the show — and even some of the character and ship designs — are deliberately something right out of a Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars production painting. McQuarrie’s paintings are in many ways where the development of the Star Wars look and feel began, and his work was central to Lucas’s ability to finally sell a film studio on the script for Star Wars.”
