Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

“When it comes to some beloved actors, their charm is diminished by age along with their vitaltiy. Keaton, O'Hara, Dafoe are practically ageless, somehow. In terms of appearance somewhat -- and Keaton especially, in the makeup -- but also in terms of personality and overall vibe. Unlike actors such as Pacino and Harrison Ford who, to me, have a very different feel from their younger, more iconic, peak-years selves, the Beetlejuice sequel stars have a nearly-timeless feel, and better yet, one doesn't get the sense they are their same selves for lack of any other options; there's still also a sense they could play many different types of roles regardless. The success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice seems to hinge on this, at least in part. (Ironically, of all the film's stars, Ryder is the one who seems a tad older and more tired than one would think she'd be. Partly that works for her role in this sequel, and at the same time, these days she comes across that way in numerous roles).
